Fierce Competition

The Reality of Making a College Team

In the U.S., there are over 20,000 public and 10,000 private high schools. For the sake of explaining the difficulty of playing at the college level , let’s use the facts that only 17,000 high schools offer competitive sports programs. If we can agree that on any given year, each boys or girls team graduates only four seniors that means approximately 68,000 high school student-athletes graduate with dreams of competing at the collegiate level. Now factor in only about

1,500 -2000 colleges feature sports programs out of approximately 4,000 post secondary institutions in the United States. What this means is less than 5% of these athletes will secure a spot on a college team.
